Last week I had the opportunity to be a chaperone at my son’s 5th grade science camp. We spent four days in the Santa Cruz Mountains just outside of Aptos. Every day the parents (chaperones) were able to take a break from 3:30-5p.m. Last Thursday we had hiked out of the redwoods, and onto a high ridge. I could see some amazing clouds over the ocean, and I knew exactly where I was going at break time. Sea Cliff State Beach was only a ten minute drive from our camp.
After being relieved of duty, I stopped and got a "real" coffee, and headed down to the beach. This is one of the shots I captured from that evening. I didn’t have time to stay for the entire light show, but I was happy to get some nice color. It seemed that the gap between the clouds and the horizon had closed off just north of Santa Cruz allowing only half the sky to catch fire.
